Case study

ICLA

Everday life-changing

Sidmouth is a seaside town on the south coast of England and home to the country’s longest-running summer repertory theatre season. Each year from July to September, the town comes alive with a rotating programme of plays performed throughout the summer.

The task

I was commissioned to design the visual identity for the Sidmouth Summer Play Festival Season.

Visual identity

The idea of “voice” – both ICLA’s and individual clients’ – was the significant thread throughout the research.

Together, ICLA staff and clients contribute to daily life decisions. Appropriately, both parties were involved in the brand strategy workshops.
The logo mark looks to illustrate this with the 'A' letterform rotated to make a megaphone.

Extra-ordinary illustrations

A suite of 'extra-ordinary' illustrations was designed to communicate how the ‘everyday’ can become something far more challenging, rewarding, transforming.

The principle for making the illustrations was to take an everyday object and make it something larger than life with as few lines as possible.
