Sydney Worldpride 2023
Bringing the party to the politics
In 2023, Sydney hosted the first-ever WorldPride in the Southern Hemisphere. It was a landmark moment for both Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Asia Pacific is unlike anywhere else. It is home to nearly 4.5 billion people speaking more than 2,300 languages. Its population is six times that of Europe and fifteen times the United States. Yet for many LGBTQI+ communities across the region, basic human rights are still denied. Same-sex sexual activity remains criminalised in almost 30% of Asia Pacific nations, with penalties ranging from years of imprisonment to life sentences, including corporal punishment.
The task
Design a visual identity for this historic event that not only celebrates Pride on a global stage but also amplifies the richness of Australia’s LGBTQI+ and First Nations communities.

Empowering First Nations Voices
First Nations Pride communities are a powerful and emerging presence within Australia’s LGBTQI+ movement. With a culture stretching back over 65,000 years, Australia’s First Nations peoples represent the world’s oldest living culture.
It is a story that demands global recognition. Nungala Creative is a 100% Aboriginal-owned agency, founded by Creative Director Jessica Johnson, with a focus on community, originality and collaboration. Working with Jessica and designer Joel De Sá, we developed the festival’s visual identity and translate it into a comprehensive brand guideline deck.
